The multitasking DJ, producer and MC
known as PEACE JUSTICE UNIVERSAL (aka dj.eurok) is a Salvadoran-American
hip hop artist based in Washington DC. His independent movement,
UPSET THE SETUP, seeks to
empower artists and communities through a DO IT YOURSELF approach to the development and promotion of positive
culture. The hip hop music he creates has been described as original,
forward-thinking, and relevant to life in the present times.
A fixture in his local music scene, PJ has
been a guest and resident DJ as well as featured performer at
a number of venues in DC including The 9:30 Club, Club 5, The
Black Cat, Nation, Local 16, and The Ritz. In 2004 he was nominated
by the Washington Area Music Association
for both the Electronica and the Hip Hop DJ of the Year awards the first
dual genre DJ of the year nomination in WAMA history. Whether
spinning records around town, producing beats or rocking shows
PJ has built many relationships with artists in the thriving
local music scenes. As a producer and stage DJ for Head-Roc
he has been an integral part of the progressive hip hop movement
emerging from the Nation’s Capital. They have performed together
at a number of progressive events, anti-war protests and peace
rallies including 2005’s Operation Ceasefire on the
National Mall.
An artist with global aspirations, PJ
was a selected participant at the 2004 Redbull Music Academy
in Roma, Italy. He has traveled in Europe and Latin America and
his self produced original releases have received radio play on globally
recognized stations including NPR (USA), Radio 1xtra (UK), Triple J (Australia) and NRK (Norway.) The limited
edition vinyl pressings of these releases have found their way into boutique record stores in Brooklyn,
Tokyo, London, San Francisco, Barcelona and many other cities.
